Fridge Disposal

4 Suggested Ways of Safe Fridge Disposal

Waste disposal has been a perennial problem in most urban areas. Everyday rubbish is picked up by garbage collectors. But are they allowed to do fridge disposal? One of the most regulated disposed items pertains to fridge disposal because even the slightest improper handling of this used appliance can result in disastrous environmental impact.

There has never been any straightforward solution to waste disposal.  Hazardous items need extra care for their disposal. Old and unserviceable fridge and freezer are among the most dangerous of unserviceable appliances. The freezer has hazardous gases and chemicals which could harm people and the environment. This is the main reason why  fridges should be disposed of very properly.

Here are ways to dispose of your old fridge properly.

  1. Your first option is recycling or reuse. This is only true for a  fridge that can still be operational.  The part of the fridge that has to be examined is the freezer – if there are no leaks then it does not pose any danger to people and the environment. If your area has a “salvation army” then you can have the old serviceable fridge hauled to this group which would find people who could make use of it.
  2.  You can request the shop from where you bought your new fridge to collect your replaced appliance. They can accommodate a disposal service for you, even if you have to pay some fee. At least, you got rid of your fridge without too much hassle.
  3. You can take the old  fridge to your local dump.  You can coordinate with your local council for pick up of the damaged fridge and the disposal will be handled by the responsible persons assigned by the council. There are some local council who can mandate their environmental department to collect the disposable fridge.
  4. You can ask a trash collection company to dispose your unserviceable fridge. There are many businesses engaged in the collection of trash and clean up of garage. They handle fridge disposal for some fee. Of the four safe ways, this may be the most expensive. In such case, let this be the last resort . . . if the other three fail.

You deserve to know proper fridge disposal, it benefits you, your family and the environment. Always remember there are hazardous chemicals in the damaged freezer. Take extra care and dispose  your unserviceable fridge the proper way.
